HIBI
日日

播磨、日本 HARIMA, JAPAN

Burn a hibi incense and let yourself be carried away by the scents of East Asia

From the meeting of two traditional industries, a new way of enjoying scents was born.

The two almost century-old companies from Hyogo province, Awaji Island Incense and Harima Matches, met in 2011.

The solidity of the match, the sensory quality of the incense, the choice of flavours and the elegant and minimalist design of the packaging are the result of three years of intensive research.

私の日常を彩る香水
A FRAGRANCE THAT COLOURS EVERYDAY LIFE

Even on an ordinary day, in the midst of familiar landscapes, fascinated by aromas, at the invitation of a scent, my mind flies. The sky I looked at that day, the flowers that sway in my memory, hibi is a gentle punctuation of the passing time.

えんまんものがたり
A STORY OF ENCOUNTER

hibi was born from a meeting of two traditional Japanese industries:

Japanese handmade matches

A match manufacturer established in Harima since 1929

It was at the beginning of the Meiji era that European match making techniques were introduced in Japan. Finally, thanks to the Japanese precision and sense of detail, Japanese matches became an export product. In particular, the Harima region between Kobe and Himeji with the port of Kobe. This industry was propelled by foreign traders who spread Japanese matches all over the world.
Handcrafted Japanese incense

An incense maker on Awaji Island since 1936

The island of Awaji has a pleasant, soothing woody smell and is the source of 70% of Japan's national incense production.

It was through the town of Sakai, which is located on the right bank of the island, that the manufacturing technique was introduced in 1850.

Daihatsu has been making innovative products since its inception in 1936, such as incense with scents made by a French perfumery.

From the meeting of two traditional Japanese industries, a new way of enjoying scents was born.

Two companies from two traditional Hyogo industries - Awaji Island incense (since 1936) and Harima matches (since 1929) - met in 2011.

We worked for three years to create "incense sticks that you light like matches". The solidity of the match and the aromatic quality of the incense, the choice of scents corresponding to the image of the new brand, the choice of the name of the products and the elaboration of a packaging embodying Japanese sensibility... everything is studied to propose a new way of taking pleasure with scents.
